- Towels: 400–500 GSM for standard; 550–600 GSM for premium; 650–700 GSM for spa and luxury segments.
- Pillowcases: Match the sheet TC; use microfibre for high-turnover budget properties.
- Duvet covers: Cotton-polyester blends (60/40) are preferred for durability over pure cotton in volume operations.
Par Stock Calculations
Hotel linen operates on a par stock model — the quantity needed to ensure uninterrupted operation through laundry cycles. Standard par for most hotels is 3–4 par, meaning 3–4 complete sets per room in circulation (one on the bed, one in laundry, one in the linen room, one as reserve). Budget for a 10–15% annual replacement rate for normal attrition.
Supplier Evaluation Criteria
When qualifying a linen supplier, evaluate on: fabric mill certifications (OEKO-TEX, BIS), wash fastness test reports, minimum order quantities, lead time (typically 21–45 days for custom embroidery), and whether they offer embroidery/monogramming in-house or outsource it.
Total Cost of Ownership
The cheapest linen is rarely the most economical. A sheet that degrades after 80 wash cycles costs more per wash than one that lasts 200 cycles. Always ask suppliers for wash durability data and calculate cost-per-wash rather than cost-per-unit.
